The adapter list does not replace the approval for your vehicle and your desired function. If you are unsure, clarify your selection directly with our support team before purchasing or flashing.

Tunes not approved for public-road use are intended exclusively for motorsport use where legally permitted. Labelling a product “motorsport” or “off-road” does not permit otherwise unlawful modifications to emissions controls or vehicle systems.

Road legality & emissions

Vehicle software modifications can affect emissions, noise and eligibility for public-road use. In the EU, applicable approval requirements and national registration rules must be observed. In Germany, deterioration of emissions or noise performance can in particular invalidate the vehicle's operating approval under Section 19(2) StVZO.

In the United States, federal Clean Air Act prohibitions apply to unlawful tampering with emissions controls. Individual states, including California, may impose additional restrictions or documentation requirements. A motorsport label does not create a blanket exemption.

Certified and approved software versions

An approval or certification applies only to the expressly identified software version, covered vehicle, required hardware and relevant market. The specific documentation and its conditions are decisive, not availability in the store or app. Technical approval by QNTUM21 does not automatically mean approval for public-road use.

Other software versions without the required approvals may invalidate an existing vehicle approval or make public-road use unlawful. Check legality before purchase and use. If clear documentation does not cover your application, do not use the tune on public roads and contact our support team to clarify.

Damage risks, liability & digital acknowledgement

Vehicle software modifications carry risks for the engine, transmission and drivetrain. You are responsible for proper, lawful use, suitable hardware and compliance with all technical requirements. QNTUM21 is not liable for vehicle damage caused solely by incorrect operation, unsuitable or defective hardware, or misuse, where QNTUM21 is not responsible for that damage.

This does not exclude liability for intent or gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, mandatory product liability, statutory warranty rights or any other mandatory rights and remedies.

At each sign-in to the Q21 app, you must digitally sign the usage and liability document provided there. This acknowledges the notices and your responsibility for lawful use, including the motorsport-only restriction for tunes without road approval. Digital signing is a QNTUM21 usage requirement. It does not replace an approval or waive mandatory statutory rights.

Software, not a complete hardware solution

QNTUM21 provides the software component. A licence does not include connection hardware and is not a complete hardware-and-software package. QNTUM21 does not sell the required hardware directly to end customers.

Suitable hardware can be purchased separately, for example from T21-Industries. Before buying, check compatibility with your vehicle, device and intended function.

Operating approval & public-road use

Section 19(2), sentence 2, no. 3 StVZO provides for operating approval to lapse following modifications that worsen emissions or noise performance. Section 19(5) StVZO then generally prohibits operation on public roads, subject to the limited exceptions specified there.

EU · European Union

Emissions law & defeat devices

Articles 3(10) and 5(2) of Regulation (EC) No 715/2007 define defeat devices and generally prohibit those that reduce the effectiveness of emission control systems. This applies within the Regulation's scope (Euro 5/6; see in particular Article 2), subject to narrowly defined statutory exceptions. National approval and registration rules also apply.

Clean Air Act · Anti-tampering

42 U.S.C. § 7522(a)(3)(A) and (B) (Clean Air Act § 203) prohibit, under the conditions stated there, removing or rendering required emissions controls inoperative and manufacturing, selling, offering for sale or installing defeat components. These are nationwide federal prohibitions, not rules limited to individual states.

US-CA · California

Additional rules & CARB documentation

California Vehicle Code § 27156(b), (c) and (h) addresses additional prohibitions on modifying, selling and installing emissions-related components, and exemptions determined by the authority. A CARB Executive Order covers only its specified applications and conditions. Other states may impose their own additional requirements.

Mandatory liability limits · German law

Section 276(3) BGB (no advance waiver of liability for intent), Section 309 no. 7(a) and (b) BGB (limits on liability clauses in consumer standard terms) and Section 14 ProdHaftG (liability under that Act cannot be excluded in advance, where applicable) remain relevant. Digital acknowledgement does not waive mandatory claims.
